Wales Clemons (1829/1836-1906)

Life Story

"Wales Clemons was born about 1836 in Amelia Co VA , his mother was Bettie Clemons, they were migrated to Texas with the Ligon and Eans 1st expedition. Wales belonged to the Eans' family. He slave married Sarah Kellough, d/o Lucy Kellough & Isaac Killough, their slave owner, they lived in Fayette Co TX and before Emancipation he was moved to Austin, Travis Co TX with the former Mrs. William Ligon with her daughter's property, he was used in Mrs Ligon's new husband Alton Anderson's business activities, providing him with funds to buy property after Emancipation. He and Sarah, his wife, had at least twelve (12) children. Wales and Sarah Clemons donated land for a church and cemetery, that became Sandy Point Cemetery. Sarah's sister Mrs Louise Kellough Reed was the first to be buried in 1900 in the new cemetery named: Sandy Point Cemetery. Sarah Kellough Clemons was the 2nd buried in 1901 in cemetery. It's believed Sarah's sister, Caladonia Kellough Scott is interned there too."
