The Bethany–Clemons–Fisher family history spans many generations. Current research has identified at least nine confirmed generations, with additional earlier connections still being researched and verified. As we prepare for the 2026 reunion, we are continuing to gather family stories, photos, and genealogical information so that future generations will understand the legacy of the Bethany Estate and the families connected to it.
Our family history research continues to grow as we gather records and stories from across the Bethany, Clemons, and Fisher families.
While many family connections and branches have been confirmed, some earlier generations — including lines dating back to the late 1600s — are still being researched and verified through historical records and family contributions.
If you have photographs, documents, or family stories that may help expand this history, we encourage you to share them with the reunion committee.
The Bethany, Clemons, and Fisher families share a rich and interconnected history that spans multiple generations. Through marriage, migration, and family connections, these three family lines have come together to form the foundation of the Bethany Estate and the generations who gather today.
Current research has identified family roots extending back to the early 1800s and beyond, with earlier generations still being carefully researched and verified through historical records and family documentation.
Historical records indicate that earlier generations of the Fisher family lived in Virginia before migrating westward in the early 1800s. Members of the family later settled in Tennessee, where Rufus Latimer Fisher (1832–1905) was born.
As part of the broader westward movement, later generations of the Fisher family continued into Texas, settling in areas such as Fayette County and Colorado County. These movements reflect the pursuit of land, opportunity, and the building of family roots that continue today.
The Fisher, Clemons, and Bethany families became connected through marriage, most notably through the union of Mary Amelia Fisher and William Clemons Sr., and later Lucy Clemons and Claude Bethany.
Claude Bethany and Lucy Clemons raised twelve children whose descendants represent many of the family branches that continue to grow and gather for reunions today.
This family history continues to grow as more information is discovered and shared. We are actively gathering photographs, stories, and historical records to preserve the legacy of the Bethany, Clemons, and Fisher families for future generations.
If you have information, documents, or family stories to contribute, we encourage you to share them with the reunion committee.
Where Our Family Came From
Historical records show that earlier generations of the Fisher family lived in Virginia during the colonial period. By the early 1800s, members of the family began migrating westward, eventually settling in Texas, including areas such as Fayette County and Colorado County.
Like many families seeking new opportunities during westward expansion, later generations continued moving south and west into Texas, where the family established roots that continue today.
Through marriages between the Fisher, Clemons, and Bethany families, these family lines became connected. Their descendants continue to gather today to celebrate their shared history and heritage.
Claude Bethany and Lucy Clemons had twelve children whose descendants form many of the family branches represented at our reunions today. Each branch continues to grow through new generations, marriages, and family connections.
